Pune: Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited has officially commenced production of the updated Volkswagen Taigun at its advanced manufacturing facility in Pune, marking a significant step in the company’s ongoing India growth strategy.
The refreshed Taigun features a bold new design and enhanced premium features, developed with direct input from Indian customers. The latest version aims to deliver improved convenience and practicality while retaining Volkswagen’s hallmark European driving dynamics, comfort, and 5-star safety standards.
According to Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of SAVWIPL, the start of production highlights the strength and maturity of the company’s manufacturing ecosystem in India. He emphasized that high localisation levels and precision engineering enable the group to meet both domestic demand and export requirements efficiently.
“The Taigun represents our commitment to global quality, engineered to Volkswagen benchmarks and manufactured in India with a strong focus on efficiency, safety, and customer expectations,” Arora said.
Echoing this sentiment, Nitin Kohli, Brand Director of Volkswagen India, noted that the Taigun has been central to the brand’s SUV strategy since its debut in 2021. He added that the new model is expected to play a key role in driving future growth and enhancing customer experience.
Since its launch, the Taigun has built a strong reputation in the competitive compact SUV segment, with over 143,000 units produced in India. Notably, nearly 30% of production has been exported to global markets, reinforcing India’s role as a manufacturing hub for the Volkswagen Group.
The updated Taigun continues to align with the company’s “Make in India, for India and the world” vision, combining local expertise with global engineering standards. With production now underway, the SUV is expected to further strengthen Volkswagen’s portfolio by offering a compelling mix of design, performance, and practicality.
