Tokyo, Japan — October 29, 2025 — Chinese automaker BYD, the world’s leading new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, made a powerful debut at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, unveiling its first-ever all-electric K-EV, the BYD RACCO, designed specifically for Japanese roads and lifestyles. Alongside the RACCO, BYD also introduced its first plug-in hybrid for Japan, the BYD SEALION 6 DM-i, marking the start of its dual “EV + PHEV” strategy in the country.
Under the theme “ONE BYD”, the brand showcased an impressive lineup spanning both passenger and commercial vehicles, reinforcing its long-term commitment to Japan’s clean energy transition.
The BYD RACCO, a compact and lightweight K-EV, represents BYD’s vision of creating efficient, city-friendly electric cars tailored for Japan’s kei car segment. Complementing it is the BYD SEALION 6 DM-i, a smart hybrid that blends electric performance with extended range — ideal for Japan’s mixed driving conditions.
BYD’s booth also featured some of its popular global models like the ATTO 3, DOLPHIN, SEAL, and the high-performance YANGWANG U9 supercar, offering visitors a look at the brand’s expanding global portfolio.
Since entering Japan’s passenger vehicle market in 2022, BYD has steadily gained ground with models such as the ATTO 3, DOLPHIN, and SEAL. With the new additions, BYD plans to launch seven to eight new EVs and hybrids by 2027, further strengthening its foothold. The company has already established 66 retail outlets across Japan, continuing to expand its sales and service network.
On the commercial side, BYD introduced the BYD T35, an all-electric truck developed for Japan’s specific regulations, and the J6 Living Car Concept. The company also displayed the J7 medium and K8 large electric buses.
BYD’s commercial success in Japan is already impressive — with over 500 electric buses sold since 2015, operating from Hokkaido to Okinawa and helping reduce carbon emissions across public transport systems.
Celebrating 20 years in Japan, BYD emphasized its growing synergy between passenger and commercial mobility. Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD Asia-Pacific Auto Sales Division, said,
“From electric buses to electric cars and now our Super Hybrid DM-i models, BYD continues to offer safe, efficient, and high-quality vehicles tailored to Japan’s needs. We’ll keep expanding our lineup and working toward a more sustainable future with our customers.”
Beyond Japan, BYD’s Asia-Pacific operations now span more than 20 countries and regions, covering cars, buses, forklifts, and even rail systems. With its focus on localized innovation and sustainable mobility, BYD’s latest showcase underlines its ambition to drive Japan’s next era of clean transportation.
