Tata Motors has confirmed it will add a CNG powertrain to its popular Nexon compact SUV this financial year.
The Nexon CNG will maintain identical exterior and interior designs as well as equipment lists to the standard SUV, with potential CNG-related mechanical upgrades to the suspension and distinctive iCNG badges to set it apart in the lineup.
Here are the key specs for the Tata Nexon CNG:
– Engine: 1199 cc
– Mileage: 20 kmpl
– Fuel Type: CNG
– Transmission: Manual
These specifications highlight the efficiency and environmental benefits of the CNG variant, making it an appealing option for eco-conscious drivers.
The Tata Nexon CNG will indeed feature the same 1.2-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder engine as its petrol variants, making it India’s first CNG vehicle with a turbocharged engine. As for the gearbox options, while Tata Motors has introduced AMT variants for the Tiago and Tigor CNG models, it is yet to be confirmed whether the Nexon CNG will offer the same gearbox option or stick exclusively to manual transmission.
Impressive indeed! Once launched, the Nexon will stand alone in India for offering such a diverse range of powertrain options, including petrol, diesel, and CNG, along with multiple gearbox choices. Additionally, its availability in an all-electric version further solidifies its position as a versatile and forward-thinking vehicle in the Indian market.
The Tata Nexon CNG is expected to be priced starting from ₹9.25 lakhs onwards, positioning it competitively within its segment.
The Tata Nexon CNG is poised to face competition from several prominent rivals in the market, including the Mahindra XUV 3OO, Hyundai Creta, Tata Blackbird, Tata Nexon itself, and the Kia Seltos. These vehicles represent a competitive landscape in the compact SUV segment, each offering their unique blend of features, performance, and fuel options. With its upcoming CNG variant, the Tata Nexon aims to carve out a niche by providing customers with a versatile and eco-friendly choice in this competitive field.
