Yamaha has officially entered India’s fast-growing electric two-wheeler space with the launch of its first electric scooter, the EC-06. Priced at ₹1,67,600 ex-showroom Delhi, the new Yamaha EC-06 will be sold initially in select cities through the company’s premium Blue Square showrooms and is offered in a Bluish White colour option.

With this launch, India Yamaha Motor strengthens its focus on sustainable mobility and aligns itself with India’s push toward cleaner transportation and lower emissions. The EC-06 is positioned as a stylish, practical and tech-forward scooter for daily urban commuting.

Design and positioning

The Yamaha EC-06 is targeted at riders who want a modern, functional and distinctive scooter for city use. Its design follows Yamaha’s global styling DNA with a stable stance, clean body lines and slightly elevated proportions that help in urban manoeuvrability. The horizontal core layout focuses on structural balance and precise handling, while the overall look is aimed at young and style-conscious buyers.

Range, battery and performance

One of the biggest highlights of the EC-06 is its certified range of 169 km on a full charge, making it suitable for daily commuting without frequent charging worries.

The scooter uses a 4 kWh fixed battery paired with an IPMSM motor. Key performance figures include:

Top speed of 79 km/h
Peak power of 6.7 kW
Maximum torque of 26 Nm

The battery is covered by a 3-year or 30,000 km warranty. Charging can be done via a standard home plug point, and a full charge takes about 8 hours.

For durability in Indian conditions, the motor and battery are IP67 rated, while other electronics carry an IP65 rating, offering strong resistance to dust and water.

Riding modes and hardware

The EC-06 comes with three riding modes:

Eco mode for maximum efficiency
Standard mode for balanced riding
Power mode for stronger acceleration

A reverse mode is also included to make parking and tight-space manoeuvres easier.

On the suspension front, the scooter gets telescopic front forks with hydraulic dampers and a rear coil spring suspension setup tuned for city roads. Braking duties are handled by 200 mm disc brakes at both ends along with a Combi Brake System for improved stability.

Features and connectivity

Yamaha has equipped the EC-06 with a colour LCD display that shows speed, battery level, ride modes and connectivity information. Full LED lighting is provided for both headlamps and tail lamps, improving visibility and adding to the premium feel.

The scooter also supports the Yamaha Motor Connect R app, enabling connected features and real-time vehicle data access. With 24.5 litres of under-seat storage, the EC-06 offers practical space for a helmet and daily essentials, making it convenient for urban users.

Yamaha’s EV strategy in India

Yamaha says the EC-06 is an important step in its long-term sustainability and carbon-neutrality goals. The company is aligning its plans with India’s EV push, including government initiatives like the Production Linked Incentive scheme and the expansion of charging infrastructure.

The EC-06 has been developed in India with a global outlook, and Yamaha aims to localize development and production in line with the Make in India vision. The brand is looking to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and lower the carbon footprint of the two-wheeler segment.

About Yamaha in India

Yamaha entered India in 1985 and became a wholly owned subsidiary of Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd., Japan in 2001. It operates major manufacturing facilities in Surajpur, Uttar Pradesh and Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. The company currently sells a range of motorcycles and hybrid scooters in India across the 125 cc and 150+ cc segments.

With the EC-06, Yamaha is now stepping into the electric era in India, aiming to attract young, tech-savvy and environmentally conscious riders who want a blend of performance, style and sustainability in their daily commute.
