New Delhi, April 20, 2026: Renault India, a wholly owned subsidiary of the French automaker Renault Group, has announced that the all-new Renault Duster has secured a 5-star safety rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP), marking a major milestone in the SUV’s return to the Indian market.
The latest-generation Duster achieved impressive scores in both key safety categories, reinforcing Renault’s focus on making premium safety features standard across its lineup. The SUV scored 30.49 out of 32 for Adult Occupant Protection and 45 out of 49 for Child Occupant Protection.
The certification is based on crash tests conducted on the EVOLUTION (Turbo 160 MT), TECHNO (Turbo 160 DCT), and ICONIC (Turbo 160 MT) variants. Renault confirmed that the 5-star BNCAP safety rating applies across the entire Duster range, ensuring uniform safety standards without any variant-based compromise.
Built on Renault’s robust RGMP platform, the new Duster has been engineered from the ground up to meet stringent 5-star safety benchmarks. The SUV features enhanced structural integrity designed to provide strong and predictable occupant protection across multiple crash scenarios.
Apart from safety, the Duster continues to carry forward its reputation for confident driving dynamics, ride comfort, and handling stability suited for Indian road conditions. With the latest BNCAP certification, Renault aims to position the SUV as a complete package combining driving performance with verified safety credentials.
This achievement also aligns with Renault’s global Human First Program, under which safety is integrated into the design, engineering, and validation process from the earliest stages of product development.
The all-new Duster comes equipped with 35 standard safety features across all variants. These include Electronic Stability Program (ESP), six airbags, Hill Hold Control, Hill Descent Control, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), ISOFIX child seat anchors, three-point seat belts for all passengers, and seat belt reminders for every occupant.
Additionally, the SUV offers 17 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to strengthen active safety and driver awareness. Key ADAS features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking, and Blind Spot Detection.
Commenting on the achievement, Francisco Hidalgo-Marques, Vice President – Sales & Marketing, Renault Group India, said the Duster has already impressed Indian customers with its strong SUV design, ride quality, and performance. He added that the new 5-star BNCAP rating, combined with strong fuel efficiency and a best-in-market 7-year warranty, makes the SUV an even stronger proposition for practical buyers.
Dr. V. Vikraman, Chief of Renault Engineering, India, stated that the result reflects extensive engineering efforts involving simulations, physical crash tests, and system-level validations specifically focused on Indian driving conditions. He emphasized that every aspect—from body structure to restraint systems and electronic safety technologies—was carefully engineered and refined to work together.
With this 5-star BNCAP rating, Renault is aiming to strengthen the Duster’s comeback in India by offering a strong blend of safety, efficiency, and everyday practicality in the highly competitive SUV segment.
