Renault Bridger Concept Unveiled: India-Built Sub-4m SUV to Lead Brand’s Global Expansion by 2027

Renault has unveiled the Bridger Concept, a new sub-4-metre SUV that will spearhead the brand’s international expansion strategy. The concept is part of Renault Group’s new “futuREady” strategic plan, which outlines the company’s growth roadmap leading up to 2030, with a strong focus on electrification, new product launches and expanding presence in global markets including India.

The Bridger Concept previews a future production SUV that will be developed and manufactured in India, highlighting the country’s growing importance in Renault’s global strategy.

Renault aims to sell over 2 million vehicles annually by 2030, with half of the sales coming from markets outside Europe.

Renault Bridger Concept: The highlight of Renault’s global push

The Bridger Concept represents Renault’s next-generation compact SUV for global markets. Designed as a sub-4-metre B-segment SUV, the vehicle combines rugged design elements with urban practicality.

The SUV features 200 mm ground clearance and large 18-inch wheels, giving it a strong road presence and a clear SUV stance. Its styling emphasizes muscular proportions, sharp body lines and a distinctive front grille with Renault lettering. At the rear, a spare wheel mounted on the tailgate enhances its adventurous character.

Despite its compact footprint, Renault claims the Bridger Concept offers exceptional interior space, including 200 mm of rear knee room, which the company says sets a benchmark in the segment. The boot capacity stands at 400 litres, making it practical for everyday use.

The production version of this SUV is expected to launch in India by the end of 2027 before being rolled out to other global markets.

Multiple powertrain options planned

Renault confirmed that the future Bridger SUV will be built on the RGMP small modular platform and will offer multiple powertrain options depending on the market.

These could include:

Internal combustion engine (ICE)
Hybrid powertrain
Fully electric version

This flexible powertrain approach will allow Renault to tailor the vehicle to different markets while supporting its electrification goals.

India to become a key global hub

India plays a central role in Renault’s future growth strategy. The company plans to design and manufacture four new models in India by 2030, including electric and hybrid vehicles.

Renault sees India as one of the world’s fastest-growing automotive markets, driven by increasing SUV demand and the shift toward electrification. The country will also serve as a global production and export hub for several future Renault models.

Renault’s global growth plan

Under the futuREady plan, Renault will launch 26 new products globally over the next four years. The strategy focuses on three key pillars.

First, strengthening its European lineup. Renault will introduce 12 new models in Europe by 2030, expanding its presence in both entry-level segments (A and B) and larger segments (C and D).

Second, accelerating electrification. The brand will expand its E-Tech hybrid technology while developing next-generation electric vehicles based on the new RGEV Medium 2.0 platform, offering ranges of up to 750 km and ultra-fast charging through 800-volt architecture.

Third, expanding internationally. Renault will introduce 14 new models for global markets outside Europe, targeting regions such as India, Latin America, Türkiye, Morocco and South Korea.

Renault’s electrification targets

Renault has set ambitious electrification goals for the end of the decade.

100 percent electrified sales in Europe by 2030
50 percent electrified sales outside Europe

Hybrid powertrains will remain an important transition technology, especially in markets where full EV adoption will take longer.

Future vision

According to Renault CEO Fabrice Cambolive, the company’s goal is to strengthen its leadership in Europe while accelerating growth internationally.

With vehicles like the Bridger Concept, Renault is aiming to capture growing demand for compact SUVs in emerging markets while simultaneously preparing its lineup for the electric future.

The production version of the Bridger is expected to play a crucial role in Renault’s strategy, particularly in India and other fast-growing global markets.
