Honda Cars India is preparing to launch the heavily updated 2026 version of the Honda City on May 22, signaling the company’s continued confidence in the mid-size sedan segment despite the growing dominance of SUVs in India.
Just days before the official unveiling, dealership test drive units of the refreshed City have begun arriving across the country, with fresh spy images revealing extensive changes to both the exterior and interior. The update marks the second facelift for the fifth-generation City, originally introduced in 2019.
Unlike the relatively minor refresh introduced in 2023, the upcoming model appears to feature a much more comprehensive redesign. The front fascia has been completely reworked, giving the sedan a sharper and more premium appearance inspired by Honda’s latest global design language.
The updated front-end now features slimmer LED headlamps with split daytime running lights, a redesigned grille with honeycomb detailing, and a connected light bar stretching across the nose. Honda has also repositioned the company logo above the grille line onto the hood edge, creating a cleaner and more futuristic face.
One of the most notable changes is the redesigned bonnet, suggesting Honda has gone beyond a cosmetic update and invested significantly in reengineering the sedan’s overall visual identity. The front bumper has also been redesigned, while traditional fog lamps appear to have been removed entirely.
On the side profile, the new City receives fresh 16-inch alloy wheels with a sportier pattern, while the rear gets updated transparent tail-lamp housings and a redesigned bumper featuring vertical reflectors and honeycomb-inspired styling elements.
Inside the cabin, Honda has retained the familiar dashboard layout but introduced several practical and premium upgrades. The centre console has been revised, front seats now feature three-stage ventilation, and the sedan gets a new floating touchscreen infotainment display.
The 2026 City will also introduce a 360-degree camera system for the first time, improving parking assistance and overall safety. However, the powertrain lineup is expected to remain unchanged.
Honda will continue offering the trusted 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with both 6-speed manual and CVT gearbox options. The strong hybrid e:HEV variant, also based on the 1.5-litre petrol engine, is expected to continue as well.
The extensive refresh highlights Honda’s long-term commitment to the Indian market and its determination to keep the City relevant in a segment that has steadily been shrinking due to the SUV boom. Even as several manufacturers shift focus away from sedans, Honda appears ready to strengthen its position with a more premium, tech-focused, and globally inspired City.
